Research interests and activities:

CFE Director, Steve Kahl and Dari have received a $40,000 grant from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) to study protection of waterways by reducing the use of road salt. The grant is part of a DES water quality study in advance of the widening of I-93 south of Concord. Dari will use the data for his master’s thesis in environmental science and policy. The project will evaluate sources of salt in four southern New Hampshire watersheds as part of an assessment of how to decrease the amount of chloride in streams in order to meet water quality criteria.

Dari is also participating in the Plymouth Riverfront Project, through which the Center for the Environment will partner with PSU’s Center for Rural Partnerships, the National Park Service, the Town of Plymouth and other local organizations in exploring the full potential of Plymouth’s valuable riverfront resources.

Dari, a New Hampshire native, cites his primary career objective as preserving the character of northern New Hampshire in a way that creates economic and environmental sustainability. He sees educated public policy and legislation as a key component to environmental protection, and recognizes PSU’s Center for the Environment as an ideal setting to explore the relationship between policy and science.
